RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-486

A resolution recognizing Mr. Thomas D. Melton upon his retirement from the Metropolitan Water and Sewerage Department.

WHEREAS, on December 21, 2012, Mr. Thomas D. Melton will retire having served with distinction after thirty-seven years of service to the city of Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas D. Melton’s noteworthy career began on August 18th, 1975 when he transferred to Civil Service status as a maintenance worker; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas D. Melton’s service to the Metropolitan Water and Sewerage Department began with his sole responsibility being cutting the grass at the George Reyer Pumping Station and concluded with his service that included sole, personal responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the entire Omohundro Water Treatment Plant complex; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas D. Melton’s exemplary leadership, operational knowledge, preparation, and perseverance in the face of disaster during the Great Flood of 2010 were absolutely critical in maintaining the safe and reliable drinking water supply to the city of Nashville, and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, Mr. Thomas D. Melton demonstrated utmost professionalism and dedication to service, having earned the respect and admiration of all those who were privileged to work with him; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Mr. Thomas D. Melton for his 37 years of service and that we wish him well.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. Thomas D. Melton upon his retirement from the Metropolitan Water and Sewerage Department.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Thomas D. Melton.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
