RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-483

A resolution honoring Judge Betty Adams Green for her distinguished service as Juvenile Judge over the last fourteen years.

WHEREAS, Betty Adams Green has retired as Davidson County Juvenile Judge after serving with distinction since 1998; and

WHEREAS, Judge Green focused her professional career on behalf of youth and the Juvenile Justice system on the state and local levels; and

WHEREAS, Judge Green was the leader responsible for organizing and establishing the Tennessee Department of Youth Development and served as its first Commissioner from 1989-1995; and

WHEREAS, she has been a leader in numerous National and State Organizations such as The American Correctional Association, Council of Juvenile Correctional Administrators; Tennessee Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and the Tennessee Supreme Court’s Court Improvement Commission; and

WHEREAS, her many accomplishments have been acknowledged through many awards. Among these include: Tennessee’s Best Juvenile Judge for 2012 and the Distinguished Service (’86) Awards, from The Tennessee Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges; the Charles Traugher Award ; NJDA’s Member of the Year and; the E.R. Cass Correctional Achievement Award; and

WHEREAS, Judge Betty Adams Green has dedicated her life and work to improving the lives of children, youth and families throughout our city and state and has administered the Davidson County Juvenile Court as a National Model Court through the National Council of Juvenile and Family Courts; and

WHEREAS, her leadership was instrumental in transitioning the Juvenile Court to the “One Family, One Judge” court docketing model and the creation of Tennessee’s first child support docket focused on children in foster care; and

WHEREAS, during the May 2010 flood and the resulting displacement of all Juvenile Court operations from the Juvenile Justice Center, the court missed only one day of operations under Judge Green’s leadership during its lengthy year period of operating from multiple locations; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Judge Betty Adams Green and wishes her all the best in all her future endeavors.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring Judge Betty Adams Green for her distinguished service as Juvenile Judge over the last fourteen years.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Judge Betty Adams Green.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
