RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-479

A resolution recognizing Immanuel Baptist Church on its 125th anniversary.

WHEREAS, Immanuel Baptist Church was established on December 12, 1887, where it began as a mission of First Baptist Church Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Immanuel Baptist Church relocated from the West End area to its current location at 222 Belle Meade Boulevard in 1954; and

WHEREAS, throughout its proud history, Immanuel Baptist Church has provided outstanding spiritual leadership to its congregation and has served the larger Nashville community in many ways; and

WHEREAS, Immanuel Baptist Church places high priorities on worship, education, and missions; and

WHEREAS, along with St. George's Episcopal Church and The Temple, Immanuel Baptist Church founded the “Boulevard Bolt” 5-mile community race in 1994, and has been an annual sponsor of this event that has raised more than $1.8 million for homeless charities in Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Immanuel Baptist Church actively supports local missions opportunities such as Habitat for Humanity, Room in the Inn, and Hands on Nashville; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and congratulate the congregation of Immanuel Baptist Church on the occasion of the church’s 125th anniversary.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Immanuel Baptist Church on its 125th anniversary.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Reverend Steven Meriwether, Pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, on behalf of the congregation.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
