RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-477

A resolution requesting The National League of Cities to hold its 2015 Annual Congress of Cities and Exposition in Nashville, Tennessee.

WHEREAS, the National League of Cities (NLC) annually holds its Congress of Cities and Exposition in various cities throughout the United States; and

WHEREAS, Nashville served as host for the 2003 annual gathering and it was regarded as highly successful; and

WHEREAS, in July of this year, Nashville hosted almost 200 NLC members at NLC’s first Policy Council Unified Meeting; and

WHEREAS, Nashville is a centrally located, premier tourist/meeting destination attracting millions of annual visitors and will boast, with the 2013 opening of the Music City Center, one of the nation’s finest convention facilities; and

WHEREAS, Our City meets and exceeds the Host City requirements set out by the NLC; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council desires to extend an invitation to The National League of Cities to hold its 2015 Annual Congress of Cities and Exposition here in Nashville, Tennessee and pledges its support of the event.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY THAT:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting The National League of Cities to hold its 2015 Annual Congress of Cities and Exposition in Nashville, Tennessee, and further pledges its support in the hosting of the event.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
