RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-399

A resolution approving an Intergovernmental Agreement by and between the United States Marshals Service and the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by and through the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, for joint participation in the Violent Offender Task Force for the purpose of locating and apprehending fugitives.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department desires to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with the United States Marshals Service to provide for joint participation in the Violent Offender Task Force; and,

WHEREAS, the Violent Offender Task Force is a program sponsored by the United States Marshals Service to investigate and apprehend local, state, and federal fugitives, thereby improving public safety and reducing violent crime; and,

WHEREAS, the United States Marshals Service will reimburse the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department for certain expenditures made during the implementation of the Violent Offender Task Force; and,

WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated Sections 12-9-103 and 12-9-104 authorize the Metropolitan Government to enter into intergovernmental agreements with political subdivisions of the State and agencies of the federal government by resolution; and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that the intergovernmental agreement be approved.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the intergovernmental agreement by and between the United States Marshals Service and the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County which provides for joint participation in the Violent Offender Task Force, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved.

Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
