RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-376

A resolution recognizing Mary Catherine Schweiss Strobel’s 100th Birthday.

WHEREAS, on August 20, 2012 Mary Catherine Schweiss Strobel’s family and friends will come together to celebrate the occasion of her 100th birthday; and

WHEREAS, Mary Catherine Strobel was a native Nashvillian and in 1948 became the first woman employed by the City’s Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, she retained that position until she retired 29 years later in 1977; and

WHEREAS, throughout her life time she was an advocate for the poor and disadvantaged; and

WHEREAS, the Mary Catherine Strobel Volunteer Awards are presented annually to individuals who represent the values of volunteerism and personal compassion that Mary Catherine has come to represent; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Mary Catherine Strobel for her work and pride in Nashville.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mary Catherine Schweiss Strobel’s 100th Birthday.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the family of Mary Catherine Strobel.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
