RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-337

A resolution recognizing Futuro.

WHEREAS, Futuro is an inclusive professional development association for Latino college students in Middle Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, Futuro was created because being intentional with the growth and development of young Latino leaders is critical to the future of the community and the nation; and

WHEREAS, Futuro is a program of the Tennessee Latin American Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Futuro is dedicated to the development of young Latino leaders as they chart their course from college to career; and

WHEREAS, Futuro has five main components: academic success, community service, professional skills development, networking and mentorship; and

WHEREAS, Futuro meets as an independent entity in college campuses and currently has chapters in seven colleges and serves over 100 students in Middle Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Futuro as it has provided structured career development for Latino college students in Middle Tennessee for the past year while preparing them for the future.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Futuro.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Nelson Remus, President of the Tennessee Latin American Chamber of Commerce.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
