RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-335
A resolution recognizing Raul Regalado, President and Chief Executive Officer, of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, on the occasion of his retirement.
WHEREAS, Raul Regalado, has served as President and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority since 2001, and in this position, he directs the overall planning, development and operation of Nashville International and John C. Tune Airports, retired June 30, 2012, after more than eleven years of service with the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority; and
WHEREAS, having more than 45 years of experience in aviation, including eight years in the private sector and more than 37 years in the public sector and has held executive management positions at small, medium and large hub airports, and is also a Certified Airport Executive (CAE); and
WHEREAS, since Regalado joined the MNAA, Regalado has implemented countless strategies and processes that have streamlined and improved facilities and services at Nashville International and John C. Tune Airports. He led the MNAA to operate as a Lean Six Sigma organization, committed to continuous improvement and earning the Achievement Award under the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence; and
WHEREAS, he was instrumental in the arrival of China Airlines International Air Cargo Service, as well as the Air Cargo Link I expansion and the development of Air Caro Link 2 and Westside Infrastructure just to name a few; and
WHEREAS, Regalado led the charge to overturn the Wright Amendment in 2006, so that direct air service can be provided between Nashville and Dallas, Texas; and
WHEREAS, Regalado’s leadership has propelled Nashville’s premier airport to national status, completing an award-winning terminal renovation, opening a sustainable and passenger-friendly consolidated rental car facility, and maintaining positive passenger growth; and
WHEREAS, he has overseen the revival of MNAA’s Arts at the Airport, as well as the inception of four live Musical Stages throughout the terminal and he has formed the Aviation Task Force in conjunction with the Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, City and State Economic Development, and Partnership 2020 to entice the best air service companies and corporate headquarters to Middle Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, under his guidance the Nashville International Airport (BNA) was named by USA Today as “One of the 10 Best Places to Hang Out During a Layover” in November 2004. BNA also “took off” with the prestigious international concessions award from Airports Council International – North America, the 2011 Richard A. Griesbach Award of Excellence; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Mr. Raul Regalado and express our deep appreciation for his service to the City and wish him a fulfilling retirement.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Raul Regalado, President and Chief Executive Officer, of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, on the occasion of his retirement.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Raul Regalado.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
