RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-243

A resolution approving a contract for the continued employment of Donald W. Jones as part-time Special Counsel for the Metropolitan County Council.

WHEREAS, Section 8.07 of the Charter of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County provides that when the interests of the Metropolitan County Council (the "Council") require legal counsel, the Council may, by resolution, authorize the Vice Mayor to employ such legal counsel under such terms and conditions as the Council may approve by resolution; and

WHEREAS, Donald W. Jones was employed as a Metropolitan Attorney with the Department of Law beginning in 1977 until becoming Director of Law in 1982, in which capacity he served until 1985; and

WHEREAS, in 1992 Donald W. Jones was employed on a full time basis as Special Counsel and Director; and

WHEREAS, Donald W. Jones retired from full-time service with Metropolitan Government effective July 1, 2006, but has continued to serve as part-time Special Counsel; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Council to continue the employment of Donald W. Jones as part-time Special Counsel.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the interests of the Council require legal counsel and the Vice Mayor is authorized to employ Donald W. Jones as Special Counsel on a part-time basis.

Section 2. That the Contract, attached hereto and incorporated by reference as if copied in full, by and between the Metropolitan County Council, acting by and through the Executive Committee of the Council and Vice Mayor Diane Neighbors, and Donald W. Jones, is hereby approved.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
