RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-239

A resolution recognizing BNA’s 75th Anniversary.

WHEREAS, on June 12, 1937, Nashville’s airport officially opened as Berry Field in honor of Colonel Harry S. Berry, state administrator for the Works Progress Administration; and

WHEREAS, for the 75 years since then, the Nashville International Airport has played a vital role in connecting Nashville to the world and vice versa; and

WHEREAS, BNA strives to make continuous improvements to its facilities, whether it be adding new vendors, updating the décor or renovating the restrooms to make visiting the airport a remarkable experience; and

WHEREAS, BNA was one of the first commercial airports to have a master plan and is now one of 12 airports in the country participating in the FAA’s Sustainable Master Plan Pilot program, making sustainability a core objective in airport planning; and

WHEREAS, BNA has been true to its mission and vision of providing the Nashville Airports Experience through outstanding customer service, facilities and services, bringing the heartbeat of Music City to the airport; and

WHEREAS, BNA makes it a priority to be involved in the community in many ways, including being active in Metro Nashville Public Schools through the PENCIL Partner program, the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program and partnering with the Red Cross Lifesaver Camp since 2005; and

WHEREAS, BNA and its 280 employees consistently deliver the Nashville Airports Experience: Serving as great airports for our passengers, business partners and employees; and

WHEREAS, BNA facilities have a beat and rhythm and exemplify its passion for customer service while being unique and vibrant places through which to travel; and

WHEREAS, BNA has an entrepreneurial mindset that emphasizes innovative and financial efficiency; and

WHEREAS, BNA’s employees and facilities should be kept in top shape, employees should have the skills and flexibility to meet the highest professional and ethical standards, and facilities should be optimally managed, made secure and maintained for their entire life cycle; and

WHEREAS, BNA should be the center of middle Tennessee’s ideas and activities and should support its communities; and

WHEREAS, Nashville is fortunate to have an airport that celebrates the arts and live music that make this city a great place to visit and a great place to live; and

WHEREAS, Nashville International Airport has honored its responsibility as the front door to the city and has served as a vital economic engine for the middle Tennessee region, enabling both tourism and business operations; and

WHEREAS, Nashville will come together to celebrate the 75th anniversary of BNA; and

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing BNA’s 75th Anniversary.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to representatives of BNA’s 75th Anniversary 2012.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
