RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-233

A resolution recognizing and congratulating Head Coach Barry Trotz of the Nashville Predators on his 500th career win.

WHEREAS, Head Coach Barry Trotz has carried out his duties with the utmost acumen, alacrity, diligence and character and has earned the respect of his players, the administration, and fans; and

WHEREAS, Coach Trotz came to Nashville and the Predators in 1997 when he was named the first coach in franchise history and now has become the second most tenured active coach with the same team; and

WHEREAS, National Hockey League’s Nashville Predators Head Coach Barry Trotz, recorded his 500th career win on March 30, 2012, with a 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings and after the game he was awarded the game puck; and

WHEREAS, the 500th win in the Nashville Predators’ 14-year history fittingly came against the opponent that has proved to be the most challenging year after year; and

WHEREAS, Coach Trotz, has become the 17th man to ever coach an NHL team to 500 victories and the fifth coach in NHL history to ever win 500 games with one team joining an elite group of coaches having reached that milestone; and

WHEREAS, Coach Trotz has guided the Predators to a playoff spot in seven of the last eight seasons, are one of three teams to have won 40 or more games in each of the last seven seasons and he led the Predators in 2011-2012 to their third highest franchise records in wins (48) and points (104); and

WHEREAS, Coach Trotz has been a finalist for NHL Coach of the Year honors in each of the past two seasons; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his work with the team, Coach Trotz has been actively involved with and supportive of several area charities, including My Friend’s House, Best Buddies and Peterson’s Foundation for Parkinson’s, just to name a few; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Head Coach Barry Trotz of the Nashville Predators, commend him on his 500th career win and wish him continue success.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating Head Coach Barry Trotz of the Nashville Predators on his 500th career win.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Nashville Predators Head Coach Barry Trotz.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
