RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-211

A Resolution authorizing the continued employment of Jonathan B. Cooper as Special Counsel and Director of the Council Office for the Metropolitan County Council.

WHEREAS, Section 8.07 of the Charter of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County provides that when the interests of the Metropolitan County Council (the “Council”) require legal counsel, the Council may, by resolution, authorize the Vice Mayor to employ such legal counsel under such terms and conditions as the Council may approve by resolution; and

WHEREAS, Jonathan B. Cooper was employed as Assistant Director of the Metropolitan Council Office in 2001, and has served as Director of the Council Office and Special Counsel to the Council since 2008; and

WHEREAS, the Council desires to retain the employment of Jonathan B. Cooper as a full time Special Counsel, and as such Special Counsel to act as Director of the Metropolitan Council Office.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby determines that interests of the Council require legal counsel and authorizes the Vice Mayor to employ Jonathan B. Cooper as Special Counsel.

Section 2. That Jonathan B. Cooper shall, in addition to providing services as Special Counsel, serve as Director of the Metropolitan Council Office.

Section 3. That the Contract, attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, by and between the Metropolitan County Council, acting by and through the Executive Committee of the Council and Diane Neighbors, Vice Mayor, and Jonathan B. Cooper, is hereby approved.

Section 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
