RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-137

A resolution approving the appropriation of $300,000 of income in the Capitol Mall Urban Development Action Grant (UDAG) to the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency for the expansion of the Nashville office of ServiceSource.

WHEREAS, by Ordinance No. 090-1112, the Metropolitan Council allocated a portion of the payments received in connection with the Capitol Mall Urban Development Action Grant (UDAG) to be used to provide economic development activities that provide direct benefit to persons residing within Nashville’s designated Pocket of Poverty; and

WHEREAS, ServiceSource, which already employs approximately 500 persons at its Nashville Sales Center and regional headquarters in the central business district, proposes a significant expansion of its office, with approximately 300 additional jobs to be created within the next two years, many of which are likely to be filled by persons residing within the designated Pocket of Poverty; and

Whereas, UDAG funds allocated for ServiceSource would be used to help with the acquisition and installation costs of information technology equipment needed to accommodate the additional employees;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That $300,000 in Urban Development Action Grant funds be appropriated to the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA) for the benefit of ServiceSource.

Section 2. That the UDAG funds so appropriated shall be used to reimburse ServiceSource the cost purchasing and installing information technology equipment (including Desktop and Laptop PCs complete with software, Printers, and related Networking) which will be needed to accommodate the additional employees to be hired for its expanded regional headquarters office in the central business district of Nashville.

Section 3. That prior to disbursing such funds to ServiceSource, MDHA shall obtain a plan from the company outlining how it will recruit prospective employees from individuals residing within the designated Pocket of Poverty.

Section 4. This resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
