RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-127
A resolution recognizing the 2011 Silver Stars winner Mr. David Balph.
WHEREAS, Mr. David Balph received the title of 2011 Silver Star following his soul-stirring solo trumpet performance of Hoagy Carmicheal's famed American standard, "Stardust”; and
WHEREAS, presented by HealthSpring, Silver Stars is a talent competition designed for people age 60+ that welcomes individuals or groups who sing, play an instrument, or dance to showcase their talent at the historic Ryman Auditorium; and
WHEREAS, Mr. David Balph has been a versatile and successful trumpet player/entertainer for over fifty years enabling him to show case his talents throughout his travels abroad and the United States performing in various supper clubs and theaters, as soloist and leader of the Dixieland Band at Opryland U.S.A., and on Opryland's General Jackson Showboat; and
WHEREAS, this remarkable man’s passion for music, at the ripe young age of 71, is indicative of his performance at the 2011 Silver Stars and is a testament of his desire to continue his legacy of entertaining fans, friends and family; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and congratulates Mr. David Balph on receiving 1st place at the 2011 Silver Stars competition and wish him much happiness.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the 2011 Silver Stars winner Mr. David Balph.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. David Balph.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
