RESOLUTION NO. RS2012-126

A resolution recognizing and congratulating the 2011 “Nashville Beautiful” art contest Grand Prize Winner Cadence Brown.

WHEREAS, Cadence Brown, a 4th grade student in Ms. Linda Primm classroom at Una Elementary, is the 2011 Grand Prize Winner in the “Put Waste in its Place: Nashville Beautiful” art contest; and

WHEREAS, the talent and creative ability of this individual in submitting the Grand Prize winning art work entry, under the direction of art teacher Caroline Bartlett, helps promote litter prevention and city beautification; and

WHEREAS, the art contest, now in its sixth year, was opened to all Metro Nashville Public School third and fourth graders, with the top 70 finalists art work in this year’s contest being displayed on the sides of city waste trucks; and

WHEREAS, Metro Public Works, Metro Beautification & Environment Commission, Metro Nashville Public Schools, Red River Service Corporation, Nashville Arts Collection and Metropolitan Arts Commission are partners in this ongoing education program; and

WHEREAS, Cadence’s art was featured in the 59th Annual Nashville Christmas Parade on Friday, December 2nd, 2011, downtown, followed by a public viewing on Saturday, December 3rd, 2011, on Titans Way, and will also be displayed on household waste collection trucks during the next six months as part of a citywide campaign to promote recycling and city beautification, she also received prize money from Red River Service Corporation for her school’s art department; and

WHEREAS, Principal Amelia Brown understands and acknowledges the necessity of including arts experience in all students’ education and as principal she affords all students at Una Elementary the opportunity like Cadence to exhibit their talent as an artist; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and congratulates Cadence on her accomplishment and encourages her to continue pursuing her passion of art.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating the 2011 “Nashville Beautiful” art contest Grand Prize Winner Cadence Brown.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Cadence Brown.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
