RESOLUTION NO. RS2011-67

A resolution recognizing Tim Corbin, head baseball coach at Vanderbilt University.

WHEREAS, Vanderbilt University has a rich tradition of excellence and accomplishment in academic and athletic competition, reflecting the highest ideals of hard work, training, and sportsmanship; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Tim Corbin completed his ninth season at the helm of the Vanderbilt baseball program and during his tenure he has turned the Commodores into a national power and taken the program to unprecedented success with five straight NCAA tournament births, including the schools second-ever trip to a Super Regional last season and finished the 2011 season with another Southeastern Conference title and their first-ever trip to the College World Series; and

WHEREAS, before coming to Vanderbilt, Coach Corbin was head coach at Presbyterian College for six years leading them to three consecutive appearances in the South Atlantic playoffs (1991-93), and Coach Corbin earned South Atlantic Coach of the Year honors in 1990, and then for nine years he served as an assistant coach at Clemson University; and

WHEREAS, since arriving at Vanderbilt, he has shown remarkable loyalty to the school and their baseball program and during his tenure he has laid the groundwork for many of his players by sharing with them his substantial knowledge of baseball, his nine years of coaching and athletic experience, and his passion both for the sport of baseball and for excellence in every endeavor; and

WHEREAS, Coach Corbin was named the 2007 SEC Coach of the Year and the 2007 CollegeBasebalnsider.com National Coach of the Year and he served as manager for the USA Baseball National Team in the summer of 2006; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Tim Corbin of Vanderbilt University, commend him for all he has done with the baseball program and wish him well in the future.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as to recognize Tim Corbin, head baseball coach at Vanderbilt University.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Head Baseball Coach Tim Corbin.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
