RESOLUTION NO. RS2011-1731

A resolution recognizing Marilyn S. Swing, Metropolitan Clerk of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, on the occasion of her retirement.

WHEREAS, in her 35 year career as an employee of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Marilyn S. Swing has served with distinction as the Metropolitan Clerk for the past 27 years; and

WHEREAS, among her many duties as Clerk, Marilyn Swing has overseen the day-to-day record keeping operations of the Metropolitan Government, researched requests for information, overseen the city’s alarm permit registration program and the Metro Records Management program, prepared the agendas for the Metropolitan Council meetings, scheduled Council committee meetings, and attended Council meetings to take the minutes and record and announce official vote totals; and

WHEREAS, an innovative and involved member of her profession, Marilyn Swing has served on various International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) committees, on the Municipal Clerk’s Education Foundation board, and was active in establishing and developing the Tennessee Association of Municipal Clerks and Recorders (TAMCAR) board; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Swing has received numerous accolades for her work including TAMCAR's 1996 Clerk of the Year Award, designated as President Emeritus by the TAMCAR membership in 1994, and recipient of the Association of Records Managers and Administrators (ARMA) Nashville Chapter Member of the Year Award; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Swing was awarded the 2001 International Institute Municipal Clerk’s Quill Award for her exemplary service to fellow Municipal Clerks, her participation with IIMC, and her individual support of the goals and philosophies outlined in IIMC’s Code of Ethics; and

WHEREAS, in May of 2011, Marilyn Swing, MMC, was the Host Clerk of the 65th Annual Conference of the IIMC, of which she has been a member since 1982; and

WHEREAS, throughout her estimable career, Marilyn Swing has demonstrated the utmost professionalism, ability, and integrity, winning the unbridled respect and admiration of her colleagues and all who know her; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Marilyn Swing for her outstanding contributions to the City of Nashville and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Marilyn S. Swing, Metropolitan Clerk of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, on the occasion of her retirement.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk’s Office is directed to prepare a hand-lettered scroll to be presented to Metropolitan Clerk Marilyn Swing upon her retirement.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
