RESOLUTION NO. RS2011-1729

A resolution recognizing Commander Robert Nash on the occasion of his retirement from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

WHEREAS, on June 30, 2011, Commander Robert Nash, completed his remarkable and distinguished career in law enforcement with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, after thirty-three years of exemplary service; and

WHEREAS, Commander Robert Nash’s noteworthy 33 year career of law enforcement with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department began in October of 1978, and he steadily rose through the ranks; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department Commander Robert Nash began his police career as a Police Trainee on October 1, 1978, in February of 1979 he earned the title of Police Officer I before being promoted to Police Officer II six months later; in February of 1983 Officer Nash was promoted to Master Patrol Officer; and

WHEREAS, in November of 1993 he obtained the rank of Sergeant, before being promoted to Lieutenant Nash on July 2, 1998, and later promoted to Captain in March of 2001, before taking the position of Commander in November of 2006 at the East Precinct, a position he would hold with distinction until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, through his many positions within the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department he remained dedicated to the honor of his profession, helpful to all in need, and respected by many in the community; and

WHEREAS, he remains firm in his belief that law enforcement officials, who gain the attention of the general public, should hold themselves to the highest of standards, a testament to the unwavering commitment to excellence he exhibited each and every day as a law enforcement official; and

WHEREAS, throughout his estimable career, Commander Nash demonstrated the utmost professionalism, ability and integrity, winning the unbridled respect and admiration of his colleagues, is spoken with high regard in the community, has an uncanny ability to communicate with various persons and groups, and has a wonderful and peaceful demeanor, and is always cheerful and has a notable smile; and

WHEREAS, no stranger to awards and accolades during his career with the Metropolitan Police Department, Commander Robert Nash received the Meritorious Award in 1984, the Chief Coin in 2005, the Major Crime Decrease Award in 2007, and accepted the 2008 Precinct of the Year award along with countless other recognitions; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Commander Robert Nash for his invaluable service that he has given to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department and the City of Nashville and wish him well on his retirement.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Commander Robert Nash on the occasion of his retirement from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Commander Robert Nash.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
