SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. RS2011-1725

A resolution expressing the Metropolitan Council’s desire that the Council be regularly updated as to the lobbying efforts by the Mayor and his administration concerning legislation pending in the Tennessee General Assembly, and requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to periodically update the Metropolitan Council concerning legislation that would impact the Metropolitan Government.

WHEREAS, every year, the Tennessee General Assembly considers legislation that would have an impact on the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor often uses staff or outside lobbyists to advocate for or against such legislation affecting the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council is often unaware of these lobbying efforts until after the General Assembly has considered the legislation; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the Council be informed on a regular basis regarding lobbying efforts by the Metropolitan Government and regarding legislation pending in the Tennessee General Assembly that would impact the Metropolitan Government.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as expressing the Council’s desire that the Council be regularly updated as to the lobbying efforts by the Mayor and his administration concerning legislation pending in the Tennessee General Assembly, and requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to periodically update the Metropolitan Council concerning legislation that would impact the Metropolitan Government.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Mayor Karl Dean, to Finance Director Richard M. Riebeling, and to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
