RESOLUTION NO. RS2011-1636
A resolution requesting that the Metropolitan Department of Parks and Recreation retain the current names of park properties to be acquired by the Metropolitan Government in connection with the dissolution of the City of Lakewood.
WHEREAS, by referendum held March 15, 2011, the voters of the City of Lakewood approved the surrender of the city charter; and
WHEREAS, in connection with the dissolution of the City of Lakewood, the Metropolitan Government will acquire the City of Lakewood’s real property assets, including two parcels of park property, currently known as Lakewood Ball Park and Victory Park; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Department of Parks and Recreation has established policies governing the naming of parks; and
WHEREAS, retaining the existing names of the Lakewood park properties after acquisition by the Metropolitan Government will honor community tradition and local residents involved in acquiring and maintaining the park properties.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation is hereby requested to retain Lakewood Ball Park and Victory Park as the names of the park properties contemplated in this resolution upon their acquisition by the Metropolitan Government.
Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government requiring it.
