RESOLUTION NO. RS2011-1628

A resolution recognizing David Lipscomb High School and the men and women who came to the aid of Coach Joey Spann.

WHEREAS, on Friday, February 25, 2011, during the Region 5-AA quarterfinal game at David Lipscomb, girls basketball coach Joey Spann went into cardiac arrest; and

WHEREAS, the quick response and composure in knowing exactly what to do, Andrea Honeycutt, Angel Carter, wife of Lipscomb Assistant Coach David Carter, Annette Brewer, Sharon Crocker, Dr. Robert D. Pilkinton, and athletic trainers Chris Snoddy from Goodpasture and Ken Tyler from Lipscomb provided lifesaving medical services to Coach Spann; and

WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience a life threatening event, as proven by the recovery of Coach Spann; and

WHEREAS, David Lipscomb High School’s emergency preparedness plan, was put to use by having an automated external defibrillator (AED) accessible for emergency medical situations. Since then the school has obtained five additional AEDs that are placed throughout the school; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the lifesaving efforts put forth of those who came to the aid of Coach Joey Spann and acknowledge David Lipscomb High School for having the proper medical tool, the AED, available.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing David Lipscomb High School and the men and women who came to the aid of Coach Joey Spann.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the nurses, doctors, trainers and to David Lipscomb High School for saving the life of Goodpasture Coach Joey Spann.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
