RESOLUTION NO. RS2011-1623
A resolution recognizing and congratulating Grand Prize Winner Kaleigh Smith in the 2010 “Keep Nashville Beautiful” art contest.
WHEREAS, Kaleigh Smith a 4th grader at Una Elementray School and under the direction of Una art teacher Jean Brown, Kaleigh, submitted the winning entry and was named Grand Prize Winner of the 2010 “Keep Nashville Beautiful” art contest; and
WHEREAS, the “Keep Nashville Beautiful” contest was opened to all Metro public elementary third and fourth graders, with the top 72 finalists entries having their artwork displayed on Red River household waste collection trucks; and
WHEREAS, Metro Public Works, Metro Beautification & Environment Commission, Metro Nashville Public Schools, Red River Service Corporation, Nashville Arts Collection and Metropolitan Arts Commission are partners in this ongoing education program; and
WHEREAS, Kaleigh Smith’s, artwork was displayed on a Red River household waste truck during the 58th Annual Nashville Gas Christmas Parade on Friday, December 3, 2010, downtown; and
WHEREAS, her artwork was recognized in a public ceremony on December 4, 2010, on Titans Way, and will be displayed on a Red River household waste collection truck during the next nine months as part of a citywide campaign to promote recycling and city beautification, she also received prize money from Red River Service Corporation for her school’s art department; and
WHEREAS, Kaleigh exhibits creative talents as an artist and as a student of Una Elementary School under the dynamic leadership of principal Amelia Brown; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Kaleigh Smith and extend their congratulations to her on this accomplishment and encourage her to seek opportunities to expand her horizons and capabilities.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating Grand Prize Winner Kaleigh Smith in the 2010 “Keep Nashville Beautiful” art contest.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Kaleigh Smith.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
