RESOLUTION NO. RS2011-1622
A resolution recognizing Eddie L. Bryan upon his retirement from the Tennessee AFL-CIO Labor Council.
WHEREAS, Eddie L. Bryan has served with distinction for 30 years as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Tennessee AFL-CIO Labor Council; on August 17, 2011, he will enter into a well-deserved retirement; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Eddie L. Bryan was born December 8, 1932, and was united in marriage to Mary his soul mate of thirty-eight years and from this blessed union was born daughter Vonnie; and
WHEREAS, before accepting his appointment as Secretary-Treasurer of the Tennessee AFL-CIO Labor Council in 1981, Mr. Bryan began his career in Nashville as an installer and repairman for South Central Bell, and became a member of Communications Workers of America Local 3808 at that time; and
WHEREAS, during his remarkable 30-year tenure as Secretary-Treasurer, Eddie Bryan has been in charge of maintaining proper and adequate financial records to show the standings of all affiliated organizations and of the source and disposition of all funds. Mr. Bryan has spent many long days and nights lobbying during the General Assembly on labor issues that benefit the working families of Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, to show his appreciation for being allowed to serve as Secretary-Treasurer to the Tennessee AFL-CIO, Mr. Bryan started the Eddie Bryan Scholarship Fund, contributing all monies himself. Mr. Bryan presented his first annual $5,000.00 scholarship five years ago; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bryan has been actively involved with many community and civic organizations where he is presently a member of the Loyal Royal Secret Order of the Hooligans, American Legion Post 88, Al Menah Temple director's staff, Observance Lodge 686, serves as Commissioner on the Davidson County Election Commission and served in many capacities with other prominent organizations; and
WHEREAS, throughout his career with the Tennessee AFL-CIO Labor Council, Mr. Bryan is to be commended for his timeless efforts and will be missed for his leadership, dedication and professionalism; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Eddie L. Bryan for his many years of astute service and extend to him our heartfelt wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement and every continued success in his future endeavors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Eddie L. Bryan upon his retirement from the Tennessee AFL-CIO Labor Council.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Eddie L Bryan.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
