RESOLUTION NO. RS2011-1547

A resolution approving a joint funding agreement with the United States Department of the Interior, United States Geological Survey, to acquire LiDAR derived high-resolution elevation data for Davidson County and portions of adjacent counties totaling approximately 858 square miles.

WHEREAS, The United States Department of the Interior, United States Geological Survey, has existing agreements with The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County to model segments of the Cumberland River, operate and maintain an ADVM gauge and stream flow gauges network, and other flood-inundation studies and mapping in Davidson County; and,

WHEREAS, the acquisition of current LiDAR derived high resolution elevation data for Davidson County and adjacent Harpeth Basin areas will also support homeland security requirements of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), and water resources flood-inundation studies of the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This project also supports the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) and will advance United States Geological Survey efforts related to The National Map and the National Elevation Dataset; and,

WHEREAS, The United States Department of the Interior, United States Geological Survey, and the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County wish to participate in the joint funding of the LiDAR data collection effort at a cost not to exceed $251,282.20 to the Metropolitan Government, as set forth in Exhibit A hereto; and,

WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 12-9-104 authorizes the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County to enter agreements with United States agencies by resolution.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Joint Funding Agreement for Acquisition of LiDAR derived high-resolution elevation data, between the United States Department of the Interior, United States Geological Survey, and the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same.

Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
