RESOLUTION NO. RS2011-1507

A resolution approving an application for the IBM Smarter Cities Challenge Grant from the IBM Corporation to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, the IBM Corporation is accepting applications for the IBM Smarter Cities Challenge Grant, with an estimated award of $250,000.00 to $400,000.00, to provide technical assistance to coordinate existing community resources to provide improved services for children, youth and families with a focus on collaborative case management and data sharing; and,

WHEREAS, ITS, MNPS, MNPD and the Department of Health, as well as the Chamber and Nashville Tech Council, have provided input for the completion of this grant application with proposal and will continue to work with the Mayor’s Office of Children and Youth throughout the grant application process and any grant award; and,

WHEREAS, if received, this grant would support citywide objectives for the well-being of children and youth as outlined in the Mayor’s Child and Youth Master Plan; and,

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government is eligible to participate in this grant program; and,

WHEREAS, pursuant to Metropolitan Code of Laws Section 2.08.045, this application has been signed by the Mayor and submitted to the IBM Corporation, contingent upon Council approval; and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan Government’s application for the IBM Smarter Cities Challenge Grant from the IBM Corporation, with an estimated award of $250,000.00 to $400,000.00, a paper copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Mayor’s Office of Children and Youth is authorized to submit said application to the IBM Corporation.

Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
