RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1439

A resolution honoring Nike Corporation for its support of the Nashville community in the aftermath of the May 2010 flood.

WHEREAS, Nike Corporation, through its store at Opry Mills Mall and Manager, Beth Sisler, provided generous support and assistance to the Nashville community in the aftermath of the May 2010 flood; and

WHEREAS, the support provided by Nike included the distribution of $2.4 million in clothing salvaged from their Opry Mills Store to Metro Nashville Public School employees, students and their families; the donation of $10,000 in physical education equipment to McGavock Elementary School; $10,000 worth of equipment to the Charles Davis Foundation; and $50,000 to Hands on Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Nike has been a valued PENCIL Partner with McGavock Elementary School providing mentoring, support and donated equipment.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring Nike Corporation for its generosity and responsiveness to our community in the aftermath of the devastating May 2010 flood.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
