RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1433

A resolution recognizing the reigning 2010 Miss Black Tennessee USA LaDonna Y. Boyd.

WHEREAS, Miss. LaDonna Y. Boyd of Nashville, Tennessee, was named Miss Black Tennessee USA 2010, and, in Ms. Boyd, the organization found a deserving representative and a talented, beautiful, and accomplished young woman; and

WHEREAS, Miss. Boyd is a native of Nashville, Tennessee and the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. T.B. Boyd III; and

WHEREAS, Miss. Boyd holds a degree in Economics and a minor in French from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and is currently pursuing her Masters in Business Administration; and

WHEREAS, she has a special interest in minority owned businesses due to a family history in publishing and banking (R. H. Boyd Publishing Corporation and Citizen's Bank, both in Nashville); and

WHEREAS, a women of faith, LaDonna Boyd is an active and life-long member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville where she serves as the Youth Director; and

WHEREAS, she plans to use her H.E.A.R.T. & SOUL platform, which consists of six key areas: health and wellness; economic empowerment; artistic expression; reading, writing, and arithmetic; travel and exploring other cultures and religious expression and gratitude through service, that strengthen and contribute to the enrichment of not only the lives of young African American women, but also all communities around the world; and

WHEREAS, she has a true passion for traveling and meeting new people from around the world; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and congratulates LaDonna Y. Boyd upon her reign as Miss Black Tennessee USA 2010 and for her many achievements and outstanding representation of the State of Tennessee and extend to her all the best in her future success.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the reigning 2010 Miss Black Tennessee USA LaDonna Y. Boyd.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Miss LaDonna Y. Boyd.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
