RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1431

A resolution recognizing Nashville Tennessee radio personality Gerry House of WSIX-FM radio on the occasion of his retirement.

WHEREAS, Gerry House, Nashville’s beloved long time radio personality and WSIX-FM’s morning host, is hanging up his microphone and along with sidekick Mike Bohan signing off The House Foundation show on December 15, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Gerry a native of Independence, Kentucky, has worked in country music radio for more than three decades and is regarded as one of the nation’s most respected, revered and recognized air personalities; and

WHEREAS, House’s career began in Richmond, Kentucky and included stays in New York and Florida before joining WSIX-FM in Nashville in the early 1980s; and

WHEREAS, his long tenure in Nashville was briefly interrupted by an excursion to Los Angles from which, fortunately, he saw the error of his ways, and returned home to Music City; and

WHEREAS, Gerry House’s illustrious career also includes two country/comedy albums, several nationally syndicated radio shows and his music publishing company, House Notes, which owns the many songs he has written, including Reba McEntire’s “Little Rock” and George Strait’s “The Big One”; and

WHEREAS, during Gerry House’s radio career, he and The House Foundation have received every major Country Radio Award including four CMA (including this years’ 2010 Large market Radio Personality of the Year); seven ACM; eight Billboard and nine R&R Awards, as well as Country Radio Broadcastings’ Personality of the Year and the prestigious Marconi Award from the National Association of Broadcasters; and

WHEREAS, in 2009 he was inducted into the Country Music DJ and Radio Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Gerry has been a tireless promoter of country music and Nashville as Music City USA, exemplified by his being honored with Leadership Music’s prestigious Dale Franklin Award; and

WHEREAS, most importantly, Gerry, and his many alter egos like Maurice, Homer and Makk Truck, have become a beloved part of the fabric of our community and have given his many listeners and the entire community much entertainment and many hours of laughter; and

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Gerry House for his outstanding broadcasting career and his many contributions to the Nashville community.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council further acknowledges Gerry House as a bona fide “Nashville Treasure” and wishes him, and his lovely wife Allyson, all the best in retirement and many, many mornings “to sleep late”.

Section 3. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to radio personality Mr. Gerry House of WSIX-FM radio.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
