RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1358

A resolution recognizing the Metropolitan Nashville Police Departments Central Precinct.

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Central Precinct Commander J. Damian Huggins, the Central Precinct was awarded the 2009 Precinct of the Year Award, the Overall Major Crime Reduction Award and the Quality Felony Investigations Award; and

WHEREAS, the Central Precinct is staffed by dedicated professionals skilled in responding to any crisis, while performing their duties with the utmost skill, dedication, and professionalism, their services can only be categorized as outstanding, and should be recognized as public servants; and

WHEREAS, the contributions, abilities and composure of these valiant public servants are an inspiration and reassurance to the safety and peace of mind of everyone who lives, works or visits our communities; and

WHEREAS, the members of the law enforcement of the Central Precinct, by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities, have rendered a dedicated service to their communities and, in so doing, have established themselves with an enviable and enduring reputation for preserving the rights and security of all citizens; and

WHEREAS, during 2009, under the command of Central Precinct Commander J. Damian Huggins, Downtown Nashville officers and citizens partnered to reduce the overall crime rate in their communities by leading all precincts in crime reduction with an overall drop of 17%, with violent crime declining to 20% and property crime fell by 15%, and subsequently the Central Precinct was named as the Metropolitan Police Department's 2009 Precinct of the Year; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and appreciates the hard work of Central Precinct Commander J. Damian Huggins and the men and women who serve the Central Precinct.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Metropolitan Nashville Police Departments Central Precinct.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Central Precinct Commander J. Damian Huggins on behalf of the law enforcement officers of the Central Precinct.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
