RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1356

A resolution honoring Steven J. Edelstein for his service to our community.

WHEREAS, Steven J. Edelstein has served with distinction as Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of Nashville and Middle Tennessee since 2000; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Edelstein has provided outstanding leadership for Nashville’s Jewish community and has guided the Federation with care, skill and compassion; and

WHEREAS, he is well-known as a relationship-builder, both within the Jewish Community and between religious leaders of all faiths throughout Middle Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure the Jewish Federation of Nashville and Middle Tennessee has raised record sums of funds for local, national and international Jewish causes, and created several innovative donor programs including The Jewish Foundation’s Book of Life; and

WHEREAS, under his leadership, the Federation was recognized with two distinguished United Jewish Communities Sapir Awards and hosted the 2007 General Assembly of The Jewish Federations of North America, bringing over 3,000 attendees to our city; and

WHEREAS, in the wake of two natural disasters: Hurricane Katrina and Nashville’s flood, Steve showed his remarkable leadership skills in support of victims and evacuees on the Gulf Coast and here at home; and

WHEREAS, Steve and his wife, Elaine, are valued members of the Nashville community and are cherished by their many friends; and

WHEREAS, Steve truly serves as an inspiration to his colleagues and peers alike, and his friendship and counsel are highly valued by those who are fortunate to know him; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Mr. Steven J. Edelstein for his outstanding service to the Nashville community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record to honor Steven J. Edelstein for his outstanding leadership of The Jewish Federation of Nashville and Middle Tennessee and for his many contributions to our local Jewish community and the broader Nashville community. Further, to wish Steve, his wife Elaine, and his entire family all the best as he returns to his hometown of Cleveland. He will be sorely missed by all who have worked with him and all who call him friend.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Steven J. Edelstein.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
