RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1355
A resolution recognizing Mr. Ray Barrett, Administrator of Elections for Davidson County, on the occasion of his retirement with Metropolitan Government.
WHEREAS, Administrator of Elections, Ray Barrett’s retirement will bring to an end a 52 year career with the Metropolitan Government, having spent the last 25 years with the Election Commission, including the last six as the Administrator of Elections and he is well deserving of this recognition; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Barrett began his career with Davidson County as a Deputy Criminal Court Clerk. He served as Clerk and Master for the Chancery Court for twelve years. In June, 1985 Mr. Barrett started with the Davidson County Election Commission, as Supervisor and Technician of the Voting Machine Warehouse, and later in July, 2004 he was appointed as the Administrator of Elections of Davidson County, a position which he has held with distinction until his retirement; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as Administrator of Elections some of his major accomplishments include having computers at all 172 precincts, being first in the state of Tennessee to mail sample ballots to voters at their homes and initiating an ongoing review and update of the voter registration data base; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Barrett has been actively involved with many community and civic organizations, has been a member of the Tennessee Association of County Election Officials, is a past president of the County Officials Association of Tennessee and served in many capacities with other prominent organizations; and
WHEREAS, no stranger to awards and accolades during his extraordinary career, Ray Barrett also retired from the Tennessee Air National Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel, after serving 32 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Barrett is to be commended for his timeless efforts for the improvement and advancement of the Election Commission and will sorely be missed not only as the Administrator of Elections but for his leadership, dedication and professionalism; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Ray Barrett for the great service he has given to Davidson County and wish him a gratifying retirement and all the best.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. Ray Barrett, Administrator of Elections for Davidson County, on the occasion of his retirement with Metropolitan Government.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerks Office is directed to prepare a hand-lettered scroll to be presented to Mr. Ray Barrett, Davidson County Administrator of Elections.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
