RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1353

A resolution recognizing David Fox for his service to the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Education.

WHEREAS, elected to the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Education in August of 2006, Mr. Fox has served the board as the Chairman of Budget and Finance and in 2008 he took the reins as school board chair a position which he held with distinction until his final meeting on August 10, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Fox was instrumental in leading the school board through the Student Assignment Plan and the hiring of our current Director of Schools, which were no small tasks, but because of his transparency and focused leadership, the board remained unified through these difficult decisions; and

WHEREAS, he believes in the necessity of putting children first when making any decision and this is how he led and how he spent his four years on the school board; and

WHEREAS, David Fox is to be commended for his accomplishments, most notably the effectiveness of the board over the past two years is proof of his superior leadership. His background in journalism served him well as he was well prepared to thoughtfully consider any issue at hand. He spent many hours researching and fact-checking before making any decision and encouraged his fellow members to follow suit; and

WHEREAS, David Fox will be greatly missed by the members of the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Education, who have come to rely upon his well-organized coordination of School Board meetings, and is to be commended for his efforts for the improvement of educational opportunities for children, and his direction, commitment and professionalism; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes David Fox for his service, hard work and accomplishments in helping mold our education system to meet the needs of both today and tomorrow’s children and wish him well in his future endeavors.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing David Fox for his service to the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Education.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. David Fox.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
