RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1351

A resolution recognizing the Nashville Sounds for their flood recovery initiative.

WHEREAS, The Nashville Sounds and The Nashville Sounds Foundation were instrumental in the recovery of several youth baseball and softball organizations and playing facilities heavily damaged in the historic May flooding; and

WHEREAS, the “Play Ball!” Project was created by the Nashville Sounds to respond to the damage caused by the flash floods in early May that damaged ball fields, equipment and facilities in the West Nashville, Shelby Park, Parkwood, Mount Juliet, Hendersonville, Ashland City, Antioch, and Bellevue areas; and

WHEREAS, through ticket fundraising and in-kind contributions from its partners like The Khesed Foundation, Minor League Baseball, Louisville Slugger, Centerplate Concessions, Rawlings, WGFX 104.5 The Zone, WTVF News Channel 5, The Cold Heading Foundation, The Gwinnett Braves, and The Milwaukee Brewers, the “Play Ball” Project raised over $120,000 in cash and contributions to said youth associations throughout the Middle Tennessee area; and

WHEREAS, Over 15,000 baseball and softball players, and over 40 area playing fields, can now get the attention they've so desperately needed to salvage their season and in some cases, the future of their programs; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Nashville Sounds Organization for the contributions they made in helping restore youth baseball fields to their pre-flood conditions.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Nashville Sounds for their flood recovery initiative.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the ownership and staff of the Nashville Sounds Baseball Club.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
