RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1196

A resolution congratulating Coach Kevin Stallings on winning the Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year Award and recognizing the 2009-2010 Vanderbilt University Commodores Men’s Basketball team.

WHEREAS, in his eleventh season, Coach Kevin Stallings earned his second Southeastern Conference (SEC) Coach of the Year Award, a most befitting recognition of his outstanding accomplishments as head coach at Vanderbilt University; and

WHEREAS, after graduation from Purdue University in 1982, Coach Kevin Stallings began his basketball career as an assistant coach at Purdue under Gene Keady; in 1988 he was hired as an assistant coach at Kansas; in 1993, Coach Stallings became head coach at Illinois State before eventually coming to Vanderbilt University in 1999, a position he continues to hold with distinction; and

WHEREAS, Coach Stallings laid the groundwork for this year’s team by sharing with these young men his substantial knowledge of basketball, his many years of coaching and athletic experience, and his passion for the sport of basketball; and

WHEREAS, Coach Stallings is a man of true character and commitment, exemplifies dedication and leadership, respected for his tireless efforts to excel, and is always guided by solid principals and high standards; and

WHEREAS, Coach Stallings lead the 2009-2010 men’s basketball program to their fifth 20-win season and finished the regular season in the Top 25 as the twenty-first ranked team in the nation; and

WHEREAS, the members of the 2009-2010 Vanderbilt University Men’s Basketball team finished the regular season with a record of 23 wins and 7 losses, and after playing in the Southeastern Conference and NCAA Basketball Tournaments, they ended their season with an impressive record of 24 wins and 9 losses; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Coach Kevin Stallings on winning the Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year Award and wish him continued success in his coaching career, and applaud the Vanderbilt University Commodores Men’s Basketball team for their achievements both on and off the basketball court.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as congratulating Coach Kevin Stallings on winning the Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year Award and recognizing the 2009-2010 Vanderbilt University Commodores Men’s Basketball team.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Coach Kevin Stallings.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
