RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1194

A resolution recognizing Dr. David Kidd, on the occasion of his retirement as pastor of Hillsboro Presbyterian Church.

WHEREAS, on December 31 2009, Dr. David Kidd retired, after thirty seven years, as pastor of Hillsboro Presbyterian Church having ministered his last sermon and final communion on Sunday, December 27th 2009; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kidd received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s of Science from the University of Cincinnati and was an N.D.E.A. Fellow in Anthropology at Brown University prior to receiving his Bachelor of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Vanderbilt Divinity School; and

WHEREAS, prior to being called as pastor of Hillsboro Presbyterian Church in 1972, Dr. Kidd began his ministry serving an impoverished coal mining community in Appalachia; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure at Hillsboro Presbyterian Church he enjoyed phenomenal growth and establishment of numerous local, national and international outreach ministries being cited nationally as a Congregation Making a Difference; and

WHEREAS, although the Hillsboro Presbyterian congregation is sure to miss Dr. Kidd’s outstanding preaching skills and his congenial demeanor, the church will take great satisfaction in knowing Dr. Kidd will able to spend more time with his family, as well as to purse his interest in justice issues and social action; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Dr. David Kidd for his service to Hillsboro Presbyterian Church and this community, and extend to him our wishes for a happy, fulfilling and blessed retirement.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Dr. David Kidd, on the occasion of his retirement as pastor of Hillsboro Presbyterian Church.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Dr. David Kidd.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
