RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1132

A resolution recognizing Representative Ben West, Jr., on the occasion of his retirement from the Tennessee General Assembly.

WHEREAS, Representative Ben West, Jr., recently announced that he will not seek reelection after twenty-five years of distinguished service in the Tennessee House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, Representative West, the son of former Nashville Mayor Ben West, was born in 1941 and graduated from Sewanee Military Academy before attending the Tennessee School of Banking; and

WHEREAS, Ben West was first elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 1984; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure in the House of Representatives, Ben West served on the State and Local Government Committee and the Transportation Committee, and is former chair of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his service in the Tennessee House of Representatives, Ben West has had a successful career as a banker and a businessman, formerly serving as a Vice President of First American National Bank and Southtrust Bank, and currently serving as President/CEO of Security Express, LLC; and

WHEREAS, Ben West is the founder of the Ben West, Jr. Youth Sports Complex in Nashville and was instrumental in obtaining the old Donelson Elementary School building for the Donelson-Hermitage Fifty Forward Center; and

WHEREAS, Representative West has also served on the board of directors of numerous nonprofit organizations and corporations over the years, including the Tennessee Arts Foundation, Summit Medical Center, Donelson Chamber of Commerce, McKendree Village, Hospice Foundation, and Centerstone Mental Health Centers; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Members of the Metropolitan Council recognize Ben West, Jr., for the great service he has given to the State of Tennessee, and wish him a happy and gratifying retirement and every continued success in his future endeavors.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Representative Ben West, Jr., on the occasion of his retirement.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Representative Ben West, Jr.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
