RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1117

A resolution endorsing the application for a Tennessee Downtowns grant from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development to Rediscover East!.

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development is accepting applications for a Tennessee Downtowns grant; and

WHEREAS, Tennessee Downtowns was created to guide communities through an 18-month process to develop direction for the revitalization of their downtown commercial area; and

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development will be selecting communities to participate in the Tennessee Downtowns based on a competitive application; and

WHEREAS, Rediscover East!, a 501.c.3 nonprofit organization, desires to submit an application for a Tennessee Downtowns grant to assist with the revitalization of a portion of East Nashville along the Woodland Street and Main Street corridors; and

WHEREAS, it is to benefit the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be submitted.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. In an effort to revitalize the downtown Nashville commercial district, the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as endorsing Rediscover East!’s application for a Tennessee Downtowns grant, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to take whatever action is necessary for the submission of the grant to the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. The Council further endorses the steering committee participation in all required meetings for Tennessee Downtowns.

Section 2. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
