RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1116

A resolution recognizing the Metro Water Service~ Department, Metro Public Works Department, the 311 Call Center and other support personnel responding to the January 2010 weather events.

WHEREAS, the prolonged period of arctic weather during January 2010 resulted in icy roads and streets, and caused multiple water main breaks; and

WHEREAS, ·the professionalism and expertise demonstrated by the dedicated personnel of the Metro Water Services Department, the Metro Public Works Department and the 311 Call Center, as well as other support agencies, are deserving of recognition; and

WHEREAS, these dedicated personnel worked tirelessly with professionalism, skill and commitment under extreme conditions to render aid to their fellow Nashvillians in a critical time of need; and

WHEREAS, personnel from the Metro Public Works Department responded quickly to ensure the majority of the main roads and streets were drivable; and

WHEREAS, Metro Water Services employees worked two shifts around the ciock in order to set up temporary water lines in the lower Broadway area so that the affected businesses could open as soon as possible; and

WHEREAS, the 311 Call Center personnel contributed greatly to the success by answering, reporting and routing countless calls to the proper Metro agency; and
WHEREAS, members of the Fire Department, EMS and the Police department played a key role in providing the support necessary for these work crews to perform their duties, and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes those who contributed so significantly to the efficient and effective operation and express its sincere appreciation for their service.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN
GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Metro Water Services Department, Metro Public Works Department, the 311 Call Center and other support personnel responding to the January 2010 weather events.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
