RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1085

A resolution recognizing and congratulating Coach Stephen Dorris and the Martin Luther King Magnet High School Boy’s Cross Country Team on winning the 2009 TSSAA Class A/AA State Championship.

WHEREAS, led by Coach Stephen Dorris, the Martin Luther King Magnet High School Boy’s Cross Country Team was recently crowned as the 2009 TSSAA Class A/AA Boy’s Cross Country State Champions; thus claiming their 2nd straight state title; and

WHEREAS, members of this remarkable and talented team are: John Gilpin, Ryan Graves, Micah Wasserman, Willie Clark, David Gilmore, Joseph DeHarde, Sam Klockenkemper, and Sam Brobeck; and

WHEREAS, well deserved honors have been bestowed on Ryan Graves as the individual state runner-up out of 182 runners and John Gilpin was named All-State for his top 15 finish; and

WHEREAS, the team is led by ten year Coach Stephen Dorris, who should be commended for an exceptional job in bringing the winning tradition to the school; and

WHEREAS, perhaps even more important than their state championship this year, these young men have displayed character, teamwork, and perseverance and exhibited the highest level of sportsmanship on the course and the most honorable precepts of citizenship; and

WHEREAS, the dedication, determination, work ethic, and talent of this group of young individuals not only made possible a championship season, but also surely points toward their continued success as athletes and citizens; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Martin Luther King Magnet High School cross country team on capturing the 2009 TSSAA Class A/AA State Championship and wishes them all the best in their future endeavors.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating Coach Stephen Dorris and the Martin Luther King Magnet High School Boy’s Cross Country Team on winning the 2009 TSSAA Class A/AA State Championship.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Coach Stephen Dorris and each member of the team.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
