RESOLUTION NO. RS2010-1084

A resolution recognizing and congratulating District Chief Robert (Bobby) Glenn Connelly, of the Nashville Fire Department upon his 50 years of service as a firefighter.

WHEREAS, hired December 1, 1959, District Chief Robert (Bobby) Glenn Connelly immediately began displaying the type of performance that has become the defining characteristic of his firefighting career, having served 50 years with the Nashville Fire Department is truly a remarkable achievement and his professional future will no doubt include much more success; and

WHEREAS, Chief Connelly began his firefighting career in Nashville as a Firefighter on December 1, 1959 until 1964, then serving as Assistant Engineer from 1964 until 1966, when he was promoted to Engineer serving in that capacity until being promoted to Captain on May 5th 1984. He then became Safety Officer in February of 1997 and in 1999 he was promoted to District Chief, a position which he continues to hold with distinction; and

WHEREAS, while the potential dangers of each incident are undeterminable and unknown, Chief Connelly exemplifies the highest level of public service; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his leadership ability, his drive, courage and commitment, Chief Connelly is a gentleman of the highest order, possessing a pleasant demeanor and a calm, even temperament; and

WHEREAS, Chief Connelly has worked at several Fire Stations over the last 50 years including Engine 13, Engine 21, Truck 21, old Truck 4 (Station 17), Engine 26, Engine 12, Engine 2 (old Headquarters), Engine 5 (Bottoms), Battalion 21, and District 9 where he still is stationed; and

WHEREAS, throughout his ongoing service to the City of Nashville, Chief Connelly has worked for seven Mayors beginning with Mayor Ben West to Karl Dean and has served under nine Fire Chiefs beginning with Chief John Ragsdale to Chief Stephen Halford; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes District Chief Bobby Connelly for the great service he has given to the City of Nashville and expresses gratitude for this remarkable man who proudly wears the firefighter’s uniform.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating District Chief Robert (Bobby) Glenn Connelly, of the Nashville Fire Department upon his 50 years of service as a firefighter.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to District Chief Robert (Bobby) Glenn Connelly.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
