RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-836
A resolution recognizing and congratulating the Metropolitan Police Drill and Ceremony Team upon receiving top honors at the annual Honor Guard Competition.
WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Police Department’s Drill and Ceremony Team, for the second time in as many entries, was judged the best in the nation at the seventh annual Honor Guard Competition in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, the event, which is sponsored by the Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, involved sixteen drill and ceremony teams from across the United States and Canada. The teams gathered at John Marshall Plaza on Pennsylvania Avenue to demonstrate their precision in three tasks: the Team Inspection, the Color Guard Posting of the Colors, and an Exhibition Phase; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Police Drill and Ceremony Team’s dedication, hard work and pride was showcased by its precision and skill in Washington at the beginning of National Police Week, the time each year that our nation pays tribute to the ultimate sacrifice made by officers who died in service to their communities; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Police Drill and Ceremony Team members are all volunteers and the members participating in the competition were Sergeants Chris West and Chris Warner, and Officers James Boone, Ryan Catron, Bryan Doersam, Chad High, and Warren Fleak. Drill Team members assisting in support roles were Lieutenant Ben Rodgers and Gran Carroll, and Officer Leonard Keeler; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Metropolitan Police Drill and Ceremony Team on this great honor and achievement.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating the Metropolitan Police Drill and Ceremony Team upon receiving top honors at the annual Honor Guard Competition.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to each member of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Drill and Ceremony Team.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
