RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-835

A resolution recognizing and congratulating Principal Ruth Murray of McCann Alternative Learning Center upon receipt of the Value-Added Achievement Award.

WHEREAS, Principal Ruth Murray, was awarded the Value-Added Achievement Award, which is awarded to principals who are considered “the best of the best” when it comes to advancing their students academically by their superior teaching, teamwork, and leadership; and

WHEREAS, McCann Alternative Learning Center was the only school in Middle Tennessee to be recognized for such an accomplishment; and

WHEREAS, The Education Consumers Foundation sponsors this award and launched an annual recognition program to identify and reward the principals of the most effective elementary and middle school in the state. Schools are selected on the basis of their three-year value added gains in reading and math, to be eligible for the award, principals must have served in a school for at least five years; and

WHEREAS, Principal Murray is an extremely talented and compassionate educator who along with the faculty work assiduously to motivate their students to reach their full potential, both as scholars and as citizens; and

WHEREAS, Principal Murray truly epitomizes the ideal of the dedicated administrator who continues to impart character, wisdom, and knowledge to all and is wholly committed to the highest ideals of quality education; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and congratulates Principal Ruth Murray and the faculty of McCann Alternative Learning Center on being selected as a recipient of the Value-Added Achievement Award, commend their exceptional service to the students, salute their professional expertise and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating Principal Ruth Murray of McCann Alternative Learning Center upon receipt of the Value-Added Achievement Award.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Principal Ruth Murray on behalf of her students and faculty.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
