RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-737

A resolution recognizing and congratulating the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools 2009-2010 “Teachers of the Year”.

WHEREAS, it is fitting to recognize outstanding teachers who have devoted their careers to providing the highest quality of education for Tennessee’s students; and

WHEREAS, a representative from each school has been selected as the 2009-2010 “Teacher of the Year”, an honor most befitting their outstanding tenure as teachers as it recognizes the positive influence they have had on so many young lives; and

WHEREAS, America’s greatest strength has always been an educated citizenry which is directly attributable to our system of free and universal public education that provides an educational opportunity for all students; and

WHEREAS, the foundation upon which the system of public schooling rests is the individual classroom teacher who exhibits the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with their colleagues and different groups in the community, as well as the desire to keep abreast of current educational theories and practices, with the ability and willingness to make meaningful contributions to the field of education; and

WHEREAS, the “Teachers of the Year” comprise an extremely talented and compassionate group of educators who work assiduously to motivate their students to reach their full potential, both as scholars and as citizens; and

WHEREAS, these individuals truly serve as inspirations to their colleagues and students alike, and their friendship and counsel are highly valued by those who are fortunate enough to know them; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council congratulate the 2009-2010 “Teachers of the Year”, and commend them for their exceptional service to the children of Tennessee, salute their professional expertise, express their gratitude for their invaluable contributions to education and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools 2009-2010 “Teachers of the Year”.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is hereby directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to each 2009-2010 “Teachers of the Year”.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
