RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-735
A resolution honoring the life of Dan Miller.
WHEREAS, on Wednesday, April 08, 2009, Nashville and Davidson County lost one its most beloved and respected public servants in the passing of Dan Miller, one of Tennessee’s premier broadcasters; and
WHEREAS, Dan Miller a fixture with WSMV-TV Channel 4, spent 16 years as a news anchor and seven years as host of the Sunday night talk show on WSMV during the '70s and '80s called Miller & Company; and
WHEREAS, joining WSM-TV in 1969, Miller became one of the giants of Nashville's television personalities and part of the fabric of the city. He left the city, and the station, from 1986 until 1994, first becoming news anchor of KCBS in Los Angeles and then as the announcer and sidekick for Pat Sajak's short-lived late-night national CBS talk show; and
WHEREAS, he is the recipient of multiple Emmy Awards, including the first on-air personality to win the prestigious Governor’s Award for lifetime achievement, voted Best News Anchor in Nashville more than 20 times, was recognized by Television/Radio as most popular News Anchor in the United States in 1986; and
WHEREAS, Dan Miller was deeply devoted to his family as a loving husband to his wife Karen, as a father to daughters McKensie, Darcy Lashinsky and Jennifer Blumenthal; son, Stephen; supporting brother to sisters Debee Stayner and Sara Harper; brother, Lynwood; and grandfather to three grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council remember and honor the life of Dan Miller, and express its sincere condolences to Mr. Miller’s family.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring the life of Dan Miller.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the family of Dan Miller.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
