RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-733

A resolution recognizing the month of May 2009 as National Historic Preservation Month.

WHEREAS, historic preservation is an effective tool for managing growth, revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride, and maintaining community character while enhancing livability; and

WHEREAS, historic preservation is relevant for communities across the nation, both urban and rural, and for Americans of all ages, all walks of life, and all ethnic backgrounds; and

WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us as a people; and

WHEREAS, The National Trust For Historic Preservation, the Metropolitan Historical Commission, and Historic Nashville, Incorporated are organizations that are dedicated to providing advocacy and education to save historic places which are diverse and the cornerstone to revitalization within communities in Nashville and Davidson County, and across the United States; and

WHEREAS, “This Place Matters” is the theme for National Preservation Month 2009, co-sponsored by The National Trust For Historic Preservation, the Metropolitan Historical Commission, and Historic Nashville, Incorporated; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan County Council recognize the month of May 2009 as National Historic Preservation Month.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the month of May 2009 as National Historic Preservation Month.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
