RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-708

A resolution approving an application for a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management, to enhance fire prevention education through the use of dual smoke detectors and public education awareness.

WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is accepting grant applications to enhance fire prevention education through the use of dual smoke detectors and public education awareness with an award of $599,344.00 with no cash match required; and,

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government is eligible to participate in this grant program; and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the grant application of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management, to enhance fire prevention education through the use of dual smoke detectors and public education awareness, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management is authorized to submit said grant application to the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.

Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
