RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-657

A resolution to honor The Beatles by proclaiming January 30, 2009 as Nashville Beatles Music Day; and also recognizing a performance by The WannaBeatles and contributions by the National Association of Music Educators (MENC).

WHEREAS, The WannaBeatles commemorated the 40th anniversary of The Beatles legendary “Let it Be” legendary rooftop performance by giving a free performance atop the roof of a downtown Nashville venue; and

WHEREAS, The WannaBeatles' performance benefited the MENC: National Association for Music Education; and

WHERAS, Nashville has a long time association with members of the original Beatles who have both recorded and performed in Music City USA; and

WHEREAS, The Beatles' music has influenced many in Nashville's own music community, and their music has been used to help educate budding student musicians in private and public schools; and

WHEREAS, MENC: National Association for Music Education, is an organization that advances education by encouraging the study and making of music in bringing attention to the important role music plays in a child’s development and the need to support music in the schools; and

WHEREAS, members of The WannaBeatles are vocalist/guitarist Dennis Scott, vocalist/bassist/ keyboardist Jim Hayden, vocalist/guitarist/saxophonist Bryan Cumming, and vocalist/drummer/ percussionist David Toledo; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the WannaBeatles and wish them every continued success in their future endeavors.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as to honor The Beatles by proclaiming January 30, 2009 as Nashville Beatles Music Day; and also recognizing a performance by The WannaBeatles and contributions by the National Association of Music Educators (MENC).

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to The WannaBeatles and the MENC: National Association for Music Education.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
