RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-598

A resolution recognizing Hume Fogg and Martin Luther King Jr., Academic Magnet High Schools on placing on America’s top 100 High schools list.

WHEREAS, Hume Fogg and Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Magnet High Schools received National Honor for having been named two of the top high schools across America for 2008; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Principal Paul Fleming, Hume-Fogg and Principal Dr. Schunn Turner, Martin Luther King Jr. these academic schools repertoire of learning techniques have enabled these schools to rank among the best; and

WHEREAS, Nashville’s Hume Fogg Academic Magnet High School, under the leadership of Principal Paul Fleming, received gold medal school recognition in a 2008 ranking of U.S. schools, ranking 30th on the U.S. News and World Report list of America’s top 100 high schools; and

WHEREAS, Nashville’s Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Magnet High School, under the leadership of Principal Dr. Schunn Turner, received gold medal school recognition in a 2008 ranking of U.S. schools, ranking 41st on the U.S. News and World Report list of America’s top 100 high schools; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council congratulates the students, administration, and families of Hume Fogg and Martin Luther King Jr., Academic Magnet High Schools, on achieving this recognition.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Hume Fogg and Martin Luther King Jr., Academic Magnet High Schools on placing on America’s top 100 High schools list.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Principal Paul Fleming, Hume-Fogg and Principal Dr. Schunn Turner, Martin Luther King Jr. on behalf of their schools.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
