RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-1018

A resolution recognizing Rose Park Math and Science Magnet Middle School on being named a 2009 National Blue Ribbon School Award winner by the United States Department of Education.

WHEREAS, commending the students and administration of Rose Park Math and Science Magnet Middle School on being named a 2009 Blue Ribbon School; and

WHEREAS, Rose Park Math and Science Magnet Middle School was one of 264 public schools and 314 total schools, selected in the nation to receive this honor by the United States Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, Rose Park was the only public middle school in Tennessee to be so honored for this award; and

WHEREAS, Blue Ribbon status is awarded to a school that exhibits the following qualities: strong leadership; a clear vision and a sense of mission that is shared by all connected with the school; high quality teaching; challenging up-to-date curriculum; polices and practices that ensure a safe environment conducive to learning; solid evidence of family involvement; evidence that the school helps all students achieve high standards; and a commitment to share best practices with other schools; and

WHEREAS, on, November 3, 2009, Principal Rise’ Pope represented Rose Park Math and Science Magnet Middle School in Washington D.C. to receive the award from the United States Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, Rose Park strives to teach students the skills they will need to lead successful lives as citizens of the 21st century, and its receipt of this award is fitting testimony to its proven record of achievement; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Rose Park Math and Science Magnet Middle School on receiving this distinguished award and commends them on their unwavering commitment to promoting excellence in education

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Rose Park Math and Science Magnet Middle School on being named a 2009 National Blue Ribbon School Award winner by the United States Department of Education.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Principal Rise’ Pope on behalf of the faculty, staff and students of Rose Park Math and Science Magnet Middle School.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
