RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-1017

A resolution recognizing the fifty-fifth Anniversary of the founding of the Cameron High School ‘Mighty Panthers’ Men’s Varsity Basketball Program.

WHEREAS, beginning with its inaugural season in 1954, the ‘Mighty Panthers’ of Cameron achieved a record of excellence, winning more than twenty-one team championships, and compiling a Nashville city record of fifty-five consecutive victories, a record which still stands today; and

WHEREAS, in the mid-1960’s, Cameron High School’s basketball players were allowed to participate in the TSSAA continuing their dominance winning several district, sub-state, regional and state titles; and

WHEREAS, in 1970 the team finished with a 29-1, record winning its first TSSAA state title, followed in 1971 with a record of 32-0 while clinching the TSSAA state title for a second consecutive season; and

WHEREAS, during Cameron High School ‘Mighty Panthers’ basketball program, many received college scholarship offers, entered institutions of higher learning in pursuit of educational preparedness while others chose different paths to gainful employment; becoming men of integrity while making significant contributions to society; and

WHEREAS, during the ‘Mighty Panther’s, several of the coaches and players went on to achieve greater accomplishments, receiving head coaching jobs, inducted into and obtaining numerous awards, including district, sub-state, regional and state titles; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the fifty-fifth anniversary of the founding of the Cameron High School ‘Mighty Panthers’ Men’s Varsity Basketball Program and for their continued efforts in the community.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the fifty-fifth anniversary of the founding of the Cameron High School ‘Mighty Panthers’ Men’s Varsity Basketball Program.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to members of the Cameron High School ‘Mighty Panthers’.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
